I'm not talking exactly about this line being added, but this ends up calling TurtleScreenBase._update which calls self.cv.update(), cv being a canvas. update_idletasks should be used exactly for performing the kind of tasks expected here, display update and window layout calculations, while calling update may also process other events or pending errors.
