A number of changes have been made since the initial report in 3.4 that might affect this area including as of 3.9.1 finally supporting weaklinking, that is, building on a newer version of macOS to run on older systems. Plus we no actively support systems older than macOS 10.9. I am closing this issue as out-of-date.
