Ned Deily <n...@acm.org> added the comment: The ReadMe is not quite correct. For 3.x, the OS X installers do not by default install links in /usr/local. Note that the installer's Welcome screen correctly notes this. To install the /usr/local/ links, you need to go back to the Installer, select Customize, and then select the "UNIX command-line tools" package.
The python files in /System/Library are supplied by Apple in OSX 10.5 and, as with everything else in /System/Library, should not be disturbed.
