Right, and I did say "(or BDFL)". Apparently you didn't bother to consult with the BDFL in advance, or at least not in the usual public venues--I haven't found a record of such a conversation on the bpo issue, nor in python-dev. BTW you simultaneously proposed adding SHA3/SHAKE. The total kloc for all this work was over 26k; you didn't mention any discomfort with the size of these patches at the time in public correspondance. In fact, quite the opposite.
