Matthew Barnett <[email protected]> added the comment: issue2636-20090727.zip contains regex.py, _regex.h, _regex.c and also _regex.pyd (for Python 2.6 on Windows). For Windows machines just put regex.py and _regex.pyd into Python's Lib\site-packages folder. I've changed the name so that it won't hide the re module.
