I suspect that "pusher" has a few too many negative connotations to be a popular alternative :) I've certainly used "core dev" as an alternative shorthand for "someone with the right to publish changes to the official CPython repository" that is neutral regarding the VCS technology. I've seen others using it that way, as well. I'd also say "committers" is still fine, despite technically being incorrect now.
