+1 on keeping the 2.x and 3.x styles separate.

I don't really understand the point. If we want to distinguish between
2.x and 3.x, perhaps a lighter difference would suffice.

The point being that 2.x is finished, and the bulk of our effort is now on 3.x. By not changing the 2.x docs we are emphasizing that 3.x is the way to go.
