Hmm indeed. Doesn't this contradict the documentation?

| bytes(iterable_of_ints) -> bytes
| bytes(string, encoding[, errors]) -> bytes
| bytes(bytes_or_buffer) -> immutable copy of bytes_or_buffer
..
This suggests that iterable_of_ints is tried first.
