Hi, 

Fedora 9 is way out of date and not getting updates for for a while now.
See http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LifeCycle/EOL

While I can't help you with the unicode issue, I suggest to upgrade to
a supported version (ideally Fedora 13) and try there. 

Your issue may already be resolved. If not, please open a bug in
Red Hat Bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Fedora&version=13&component=python

Also, try to be more verbose when describing your problem. This will
make it easier for others to reproduce. Ideally if you can attach your
code (or parts of it).
