Archived, searchable, and properly threaded AND properly notifying the correct participants. Every few years, a spiffy new thing comes along, and it usually isn't enough of an improvement to survive. Mailing lists continue to be more than adequate, and the alternatives end up being aimed at point-and-click people who dislike mailing lists. I'm much happier sticking to the list.
