You can ask the organizers... However, note:

1. It takes place between Oreilly's strata conference and PyCon, so people
might stay over from that conference.
2. It is also of interest for people who are interested in scientific
computing, big-data etc. more than in Python per-se.
3. This event includes a meeting between Guido and numpy-devs to discuss
issues like future integration with py3.3. I guess numpy/scipy devs would
be a main target audience for pydata, and they might have had some
scheduling problems.
