HI! Since I'm working more with LDAPv3 controls now I've cleaned up sub-module ldap.controls. Still work in progress...
Unfortunately it would be too cumbersome to maintain backward compability. So python-ldap 2.4 will very likely break applications working with LDAPv3 controls. My application code will also be heavily affected. I can understand that this will make many people unhappy. But IMO it's the only way to clean up this mess and come up with a much more convenient API for dealing with controls. Better to do it now than later.
