I don't think this NG is anti-newbie so much as anti-whining-loser. Unfortunately, some newbies might see this and perceive it to be abuse of newbies in general. It is not so. People who have chips on their shoulder, who make loaded, emotionally-provocative comments, who make no effort on their own, who expect us to do their homework and/or job for them, etc., there are the people who going to get an unfavorable tone.
