I quite like a bit of syntax highlighting - it helps to quickly grasp the structure of code. Of course how much is a matter of taste. I also like to highlight things that can creep in accidentally and shouldn't be there - e.g. whitespace at the end of lines, tabs where there should be spaces. -- http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
