Hey, I've written a small "IDE". It is written in python using the python toolkit and offers an advanced text-editor, file-manager, ftp-client, sql- client(in development) and more towards the future.
It is linux-only (this because of some differences between the windows wxPython and the linux wxPython download a .deb or .tar.gz from http://launchpad.net/minimal -- http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
