I got stung because I expected ---2--- to do what ---3--- did.
It's stung me too (more times than I care to admit! ;), but it's not a bug.
2.5 docs:
split( [sep [,maxsplit]])
Return a list of the words in the string, using sep as the delimiter
string. ... Splitting an empty string with a specified separator returns
"['']".
If sep is not specified or is None, a different splitting algorithm is
applied. ... Splitting an empty string or a string consisting of just
whitespace returns an empty list.
Note the bit in the second paragraph.
Here's my code snippet:
