Can someone elaborate on this? Where can I get the socket module for
HTTPS, or how do I build one if I have to?

This is mostly a CPython oriented list. Any prebuilt CPython binary you get likely has SSL support compiled in. If you want to know about the jython socket module, you should check on a jython list, or just try it.
