This is your problem: You say "it didn't work". That is almost *never* the right thing to say or to think. What happened when you tried that? Did you get a SyntaxError because of the omitted close parenthesis? Did the interpreter prompt for more input? Did a velociraptor come out of nowhere and try to kill you [1]? When you come back to python-list, you should say exactly what you did and exactly what happened, not "I tried X and it didn't work". Copy and paste from your interactive session - do NOT retype, because you introduce new errors. It's very hard to help you when you don't explain what you're doing, and just keep on telling us how frustrated you are.
