Apple has not yet shipped a version of 8.6 with OS X, so the Apple-supplied Python in current OS X releases use 8.5; OS X 10.5 and earlier systems shipped only with 8.4. At the moment, the Pythons for OS X provided by python.org installers still use 8.5 for the 10.6+ installers and 10.4 for the 10.5+ installers. Some third-party distributors of Python and Tcl/Tk for OS X are now using 8.6, e.g. MacPorts. -- Ned Deily, n...@acm.org -- https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
