It lasted for a few years before Sun sued for non-compliance. There definitely is some of its DNA in C#. I prefer C# to C++ but it does have annoyances. It's only a warning that can be pragma'd but string foo; complaining that foo may be null unless you shut it up with string? foo; can be frustrating. It has a germ of a good idea for structs (classes) where some of the members are optional. The bool hoops definitely are another sore point after a few decades of C.
