It is almost certainly better to download the wheel (.whl) file rather than the sdist (.tar.gz) file. Building NumPy from source needs not just compilers etc but also you first need to build/install a BLAS library. -- Oscar -- https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
