If I understand correctly, you are trying to ignore "i" but not "icicle"?

In addition to $ at the end, don't you want "^" at the beginning to?

dummy-variables-rqx=^_|([ijk]|dummy)$

That should only hit on {_, i, j, k, dummy} but not
"_my_private_method", "icicle", "john", "kola" or "dummy_variable" right?
