A team over at NASA Ames in Mountain View, California reached out to the
Cellbots team a few months ago. Since then we've been working on using the
concept we fleshed out for driving robots as a platform for controlling a
satellite. The team hit their first milestone last weekend by launching
Android phones on two rockets that were running Python programs to log
telemetry data using the Scripting Layer for Android. One of them even had
an Arduino and Bluetooth chip just like we have on our desktop robots!

Here's an article on Make with a picture and video from one of the launches:

Sadly, one of the phones didn't survive the launch to 120k feet but the data
was recovered :)

The team includes Ben and Carmen, two students who pulled some long hours
getting ready for the launch and did some amazing work. Hopefully we'll see
more from them soon as we head towards Cellbots in space!
