Hi All,

>From another mailing list:

"Since 1825 the Royal Institute (http://www.rigb.org/) have held
"Christmas Lectures" for young people. Since at least the 1970s they
have been televised by the BBC over the week after Christmas and have
become something of a tradition here in the UK (I remember watching
them as a kid in the 1980s).

This year's lectures, entitled "Sparks will fly: How to hack your
home" were given by Prof Danielle George from Manchester University
(other lecture alumni include Carl Sagan, Richard Dawkins and David
Attenborough). I've just watched the first programme with my own kids
(see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/group/p02f7g9w these programmes
will be available via the Ri website once they're removed from BBC
iPlayer).

Prof George explains various bits and bobs of electrical engineering
by re-creating the Blinkenlights as a Tetris game on a London office
block. At around the 40 minute mark a brave CBBC (Children's BBC)
presenter shows how the thing is programmed.

Guess what?

They use Python! They also do some live coding to blow stuff up as
well as show the source code for the Blinkenlights (also in Python). :-)"

And for those who cannot view the lectures, the Royal Institute has
uploaded the videos: http://www.richannel.org/videos

Enjoy!

Cheers,
