Hi everyone, When Python Ireland started back in 2005, it was a collection of interested people in a pub, discussing their favourite programming language. Over the past few years, we’ve grown into a community of more than 1,000 members, with monthly meetups that regularly have more than 80 people in attendance, and an annual conference which is expanding to over 400 delegates across 4 days. This is a testament to all the committee members and volunteers over the past ten years who have put in countless hours of their spare time to help foster this great community.
However, with this growth, the responsibility for those in the committee has grown to a level which is not sustainable for a volunteer unincorporated association. So we started a process to investigate potential approaches to mitigating the financial and legal risks to those serving on the committee and to put in place a sustainable framework to help the organisation grow and to encourage new volunteers take up positions on the committee. The end result of this process has concluded as follows, the Python Ireland committee will be dissolved and a new company limited by guarantee will take its place, Python Ireland Developers Limited. This new company has a board of directors and a set of 7 members who will make up the governance team and main shareholders. The committee of this new company will be structured as follows and be elected from the membership. Titles: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer. Roles: Communications, Monthly Meetup Organiser, Sponsorship, Website Administrator, Events Coordinator. We’re looking for volunteers to join this new committee and take up the roles listed above. This is a great opportunity for you to get involved in the community and develop responsibilities in areas which you may not get a chance to do so otherwise.
