I suppose you have installed two different python versions.
For example I had this problem when I tried to install QT having both 2.4 and 2.3 installed. I had some misconfigurations, and while installing for 2.4 was straightforward, 2.3 gave me problems.
This should be easily fixable. Anyway, which versions did you install (or am I totally wrong)?

Have you installed X11? And what about X11 SDK (I don't remember the exact name)
The first one should be in some of your installation disks. The second one is available on Apple Developer Connection for free (IIRC) for free.
