This might be my misunderstanding; if so, I'm sorry. I thought that py2app
was intended (among many other things) to make Python/Tkinter apps that
could work on OS X systems where neither Python nor Tcl/Tk/Tkinter were
installed. If that's not the case, I'll take a different approach.

Yes, that is one of its goals, but honestly, I don't care enough to research it myself. I don't write Tkinter applications. It's up to the community to figure out what's wrong with Tcl and tell me how to fix it. Either that, or find a way to make me care (i.e. monetary bribe).
