So, here's another appscript problem:

/Users/wjanssen 2 % python
Python 2.5.1 (r251:54863, Jan 17 2008, 19:35:16)
[GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5465)] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
from appscript import *
app('System Events').processes()
app('System Events').processes()

It works for me (OSX 10.5 intel):

Python 2.5.2 (r252:60911, Feb 22 2008, 07:57:53)
[GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5363)] on darwin
from appscript import k, app
se = app('System Events')
se
app(u'/System/Library/CoreServices/System Events.app')
se.processes()
[app(u'/System/Library/CoreServices/System Events.app').application_processes[u'loginwindow'], app(u'/System/ Library/CoreServices/System Events.app').application_processes[u'Folder ...

I first thought System Events might be a scripting addition (osax):
