Thanks Kevin for clarifying :-) yes that's correct, I'm pretty much done with all the important steps (a few things like sheet dialogs have to wait for 2.9.1), 2.9.0 has just had its RC3 and because of a linkage problem on fedora we will have to make a RC4 but then 2.9.0 should be ready, having both osx_carbon and osx_cocoa, and the latter works in 64 bit as well. I don't know about Robin's schedule right now, but we've always tried to make sure his things still build properly during the last few months.
