I believe the 2.3 library is still supplied by Apple with 10.6 for the
benefit of applications that may have been dynamically linked to it in
earlier releases of OS X. (2.3 was the default in 10.4)
There have been other posts about the Apple supplied Python. Anything in
the /System should not be touched.
