That is certainly possible. I no longer has FreeBSD installations
so I can not debug it. But if anyone is interested, the FreeBSD
libusb codes are here. libusb01.c is the libusb-0.1 wrapper.

Hopefully there are other Mac OS X users who can confirm
whether the libusb01 backend works for them or not. I just
got my Mac Mini two months ago so I am a new OS X user.
