I guess we're getting way off-topic for this list, but just do a web search for "python audio" and "python fft" and you'll find plenty of stuff, for instance pyaudio. You'll probably find python modules for everything and you just have to glue it together. If you can't get any help from your school tutors, try asking on a relevant python forum.
