I removed the python-usb package from wheezy (was indeed 0.4...). Next,
(since I don't use pip yet, I'll look into it):
I unzipped the most recent zip file
cd into the directory with the file setup.py and ran the following command
(as root):
python setup.py install
(and also for python3: "python3 setup.py install")
I did this, because it's what the README.rst file said.
Back in Python, the command
import usb.core
seems to work, because the error message no longer appears (I'll try to
actually use it tomorrow).
