TASK DESCRIPTION `replace_links()` has accumulated many responsibilities and currently has a cyclomatic complexity of 39. Its parsing, replacement, link-trail, label, section, and cursor-handling rules are difficult to understand and safely modify as one continuous function. The function supports important link-replacement and unlinking workflows throughout Pywikibot. Reducing its complexity will make future maintenance safer, improve testability, and lower the risk of regressions while preserving existing behavior.
