In a way, to write an IDE it doesn't matter in which GUI toolset you write it, as long as you have the choice for the applications you are writing with it. I mean, look at Eclipse : it is written using SWT, but by no mean you are restricted to it when writing GUI apps. Ok, it is perhaps the better choice, but it is not my point.
What should we do to support every widget set around ? A part of the answer is in the word "plugin", that has been already discussed here. I think that another part is in the portability. I'd like to know how much easy it is to install a widget framework on Linux, OSX and Win32. It should be an easy, one-step action, and it should not be a too evolving framework to limit the updates to the mandatory bug and security patching. If we go with Qt4, we will stay with Qt4 as long as possible. Idem if we go with wxWidget 2.6. VoilĂ , that's all for today.
