Hello QAers, We have found a few cases of what seem to be race conditions when using VisualEditor in Chrome, and it would be great if you could help us find some more.
Examples: * 'not logged in' warning for logged-in user: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55756 * Categories links appear when they should not: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55759 There is another case that I believe happens in Chrome 29 but not Chrome 30, where the "Welcome..." message first appears, then disappears upon being dismissed[*], then reappears, then disappears again: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54854 Another case I have not reproduced is that after logging in the user sees only an 'Edit' tab where you should see one 'Edit source' tab and another 'Edit/beta' tab. Screen shots of any issues you find would be awesome. If you'd like to help us look for similar issues, you should have * Chrome 29 or 30 (please specify if you make a report) * an account on http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org with VisualEditor enabled in Preferences * the slower your connection, the more likely to find a race condition I think. for more technical people, you might like to explore using a proxy with a throttle like http://www.charlesproxy.com/ "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus's_Law Thanks for your help! [*] The 'Welcome to...' overlay only appears when your browser does not have the cookie called 've-beta-welcome-dialog'. In order to delete this cookie in Chrome and thus have the message appear upon clicking 'Edit/beta', do this: * enter chrome://settings in the address bar, or click Settings/Preferences (the 3 bars to right of address bar) * click Show advanced settings... * under Privacy, click 'Content settings' * under Cookies, click 'All cookies and site data...' * search for 'beta' * under en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org click 've-beta-welcome-dialog' * click 'Remove' * click 'Done'
