Hi Purva,

Welcome to the Apache OpenOffice project!

Are you an OpenOffice users? If not you'll want to download the
latest version and poke around: http://www.openoffice.org/download

We just released our 4.0 version a couple of weeks ago. In the first
week it was downloaded over 1 million times!

We don't yet have a more recent build from the developers. So we're
not doing any formal testing right now. Most of us are focused on
reviewing incoming bug reports from users. Users tend to write vague
defect reports. We try to work with them to gather additional details
and if possible confirm the defect report and pass it on to the
developers to look at. In many cases the bugs are duplicates and we
can close the duplicate report quickly. In some cases the user report
is a "how to" question not a bug, and we refer them to the support
forum.

So if you'd like to help us with confirming new bug reports, the
assistance would be much appreciated.

You can find specific steps to get started on our website. We have a
few pages of "orientation" information for new volunteers here:

http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/

If you are new to working on an open source project I'd recommend
skimming the Level 1 and Level 2 topics for background. And I do mean
skim. No need to spend hours reading all that. But then focus on the
"Introduction to QA" topic:

http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-qa.html

That has some specific tasks for you to start with, subscribing to
mailing lists, creating a Bugzilla account, adding your info to the
wiki, etc. Once you've done that you can help with the "Easy QA Task:
Confirm New Defect Reports" items.

Don't hesitate to send along any questions!

Regards,

-Rob
