You're joking, but a template patch or some other automatism that opens the next development tree *BY* introducing new machine types would be nothing to frown at. Another option would be for Peter to delay opening up the next development tree until he could immediately merge a patch with the new machine types (posted by whoever, near the end of the HFF or something).
