Out of curiosity, would you accept an intergrated GUI for Linux if it was based
on Xlib or an updated QtC (which was a Qt wrapper that enabled Qt to be used in
C programs) ?

The main advantage, that I can see, with using GTK is that you can run it on
the framebuffer (without X) - provided you have the proper GTK/GDK libs.
