When I try to install kubuntu in a virtual x86-64 image, the emulator hangs at
seemingly random places, eating 100% cpu time but making no progress.

I've tried four different variants:
  qemu 0.8.2 built with gcc-3.3
current cvs snapshot built with gcc-3.3
  qemu 0.8.2 built with gcc-4.0
current cvs snapshot built with gcc-4.0

To get qemu to build with gcc-4.0, I applied the patch
at "http://busybox.net/downloads/qemu/qemu-gcc-4-all.patch";. I installed
gcc-3.3 and rebuilt with _that_ just to make sure that wasn't the problem.

I reproduce the hang by grabbing a kubuntu x86-64 install cd from:
http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/ubuntu-releases/kubuntu/6.06.1/kubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-amd64.iso

Giving it a 3 gigabyte image file:
dd if=/dev/zero of=ubuntu64.img bs=1M count=3072

And running:
qemu-system-x86_64 -hda ubuntu64.img -cdrom kubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-amd64.iso \
        -boot d

Is anybody else seeing this? Any idea what the problem is? My laptop is
Ubuntu 6.06, 1 gig ram 2 ghz cpu. I've let it run for 10 minutes and it
won't get unstuck...
