IIUC your solution could also improve downtime, it's just that it bypasses migration in general so from that POV a multifd-based solution is preferred. Fundamentally I think you share the goal more or less on allowing concurrent vfio migrations, so it will be greatly helpful to have your input / reviews, also making sure the ultimate solution will work for all the use cases.
