We used LVM to provide snapshots for backups for more than 4 years now. (in production at many customer sites). It is a constant PITA. If interested, you can grab our support forum about problems with LVM snapshots (http://forum.proxmox.com). The new backup approach is much better an avoids most of the problems we had. (the backup patches contains a list of advantages).
