You have to have two map frames on your composer. On the the second one
you select it to be a overview map of the first one.

The UI might need some better naming to explain this better.

Subject: [Qgis-developer] Overview frame in composer
Hi Marco,

I don't know if this is a bug or a lack of understanding on this new
feature. On a map composer item, I want to add the overview frame. I
can select an overview style, but the "Overview frame" drop-down menu
only has the "none" option.

Is there something I need to do to provide an overview choice in that
drop-down, or is it possible that the list is not being populated on
my OS X system and it is a bug?

Let me know what I can do to help debug if it is the latter.

Cheers,
John
