Paolo,

I had the idea of using the vertical list of icons on the left, one for
each provider, and having the current providers widget/dialog that opens
normally when you press the button docked on the right.  This would mean
the UI is more consistent with the other dialog that follow this style and
would reduce the Open xxx Layer down to a single Add Data/Layer button.  I
will see if my new employer is happy for me to spend some time on this for
2.0.
