Plz have a look into this issue report: http://hub.qgis.org/issues/9229 It turns out that certain python plugins are registering and deregistering actions in a way it makes QGIS go slow. Disabling (or removing the plugins) helps. See the issue for 3 known affected plugins, plz add others if you can find others with the same problem.
