The other thing is that it got horribly slow after that commit.

Maybe there are two different overlapping issues, though.

I am pretty sure it has to do with this "QGIS server security patch" from Stéphane. My troubles started after this got merged into master.

Can you check if the version before https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/commit/422abbde5e5b76924d3b78eba42d61a4f4c18563 is still ok?
