I'm working on it. Alvaro's answer pointed me in the direction of
potential issues with virtual fields containing geometry, and while
testing this I'm running into some other issues. Trying to investigate
and will come back with data and a way to reproduce the issues.

Best thing to do is file an issue at http://hub.qgis.org/issues with a
copy of your data + sample project. If you do that this bug should be
easy for us to squash!
