HI, I face exactly same issue (code was ok with 2.14 and failed with 2.18) I solved it by removing : import matplotlib.pyplot as plt and keep direct import : from matplotlib.backends.backend_qt4agg import NavigationToolbar2QT as NavigationToolbar from matplotlib.backends.backend_qt4agg import FigureCanvasQTAgg as FigureCanvas from matplotlib.figure import Figure

You can try install 'python-tcltk' library using OSGeo4W installer. It helped me.
