When I save Google Earth polygons or lines and look at the file, the first point of the line or polygon has no coordinate and a phony projected coordinate. Check if that is an issue for you. I don't know why that happens on my system here, but a work around for me is to create a token first point and delete it then with a program like garmin dnr (it's free) in case of lines or in the case of polygons copy the last point into the space of the first point. I don't know if this is your issue, but again this happens regularly in my system if I save GE layers. Jake

An easy way to check is to open the kml in a text editor, it will be quite short and obvious if the actual x,y data is in the file. See http://sites.google.com/site/gmapstips/export-my-map-as-kml for more information. If this isn't the issue and the data is public and you can point us to a copy to test that would be great.
