On my debian sid, qgis 1.7.5 is compiled with :
gdal 1.9.0
postgis 9.1.3
spatialite 2.4.0
qt 4.8.1
from debian repository !
$ uname -a

GNU/Linux

qgis-common is new.
It is a problem of the building due to dependencies or some other problem.
